Needed more channels

I thought this took a long time to build up, and then when you changed up the melody for a major lift at 1:30 you didn't bring in anything new... I think there's just one synth that rears its head beyond the 2:00 mark, and its oscillation is out of sync with the rest of the track. I like the general and simplistic style of the track altogether, but I thought it could use a few more channels, given its length.

3.5/5 (i voted twice -- take that NG)

Thanks! I'll label this as WIP now and get a new version up later! I was tired when I made this..

I can't even believe i'm giving this an 8

You sir have me between a rock and a hard place: on the one hand, Tetris remixes have been done to death, on the other you made some very bold choices that make this stand out as somewhat original. I just wish you'd taken these same synths with that twangy piano and made your own track with 'em; it would have been all the more awesome. Nice work with the EQ and mastering all the same. I like the bass triplets too.

I'm capping you at 8/10 4/5 because it's a Tetris remix. Please do something else with your talent!

Therm0 responds:

Well dude, thank you so much. :)
I was actually going to point out, in the description, that I can't believe I was doing one of these.. AGAIN. Yeah, this is my second. My first was absolute crap though. Anyways, yeah, obviously I forgot--but I'm glad you pointed that out. But hell yeah man I'll totally make another track as soon as I'm inspired to. :P (Not that you haven't inspired me--but I mean, if I do it right now, it might end up pretty.. uh.. bad. I'm kind of 'exhausted' for today.) I really appreciate the feedback having to do with the EQ and mastering--that was a really really tough part of making this track. Thank you. Your review means a lot to me--believe me. (8's are also pretty high up there in my opinion--so thank you for the 8, as well! :D)
Thanks. Again. :P

I see a lot of potential in this track...

I think you've got all the ingredients for a monster hit here, but there's still plenty of room for improvement on this track.

I just think at times you had to bring the volume down for the lead guitar and maybe change up the beat a bit. I'd also consider some EQ work on the square wave/8bit synth you brought in at 2:08; I think it's clipping.

One thing you could add to make this truly heavy metal is some monster snare/tom rolls. If I were you, I think I'd try stickin' 'em in at about 2:56.

More broadly, i thought the track needed to progress to something bigger. Instead, most of what got added was 8bit background noise -- without much variety in the beat.

PLEASE work on this because it will make one sweet #$&%ing track if you put more into it.

Centrist responds:

This is actually my second track that I've ever recorded with mixcraft, and that being said, this is the most I've ever actually recorded into a track. Most of the synth and what you hear are loops that came in the library. As much as I hate to use loops, I'm going to try to find an alternate way to add different parts of the song in with Reason. The only hard part about that is that I can't record directly to Reason, hence why Mixcraft is involved. I'll see what I can do with it, but I don't think I can offer much at this point.

Thanks for the review and the suggestions. :]

Interesting Guitar Synth

I liked the guitar-ish synth you used for the melody, but I think this needed a bit more variety -- what you have is well put together, but it needed something more than an 8bit break for 10 seconds. Maybe a section where you use long sweeping twangy notes as a pad for something more badass?

I think if you work a few more different themes into this it'll be nuts. maybe finish it off with some sort of merging of 8bit and electric guitar?

eewgames responds:

Ok... i will think... And maybe make it again but better... ^^

Easy 10.

I don't bust out my 10's for just anything. But here -- the mastering, the layering, the choice of instrumentation, the variation in themes and melody tempo... You packed a ton into a 3:00 track; I've never managed anything this grandiose.

I'll give you an 11 if you tell me where you got that french horn from!

Best of the EVER, nevermind the week.

SoS responds:

Hey! Thanks for your kind words :). The brass you're hearing here is actually a blend of various brass. The prominent ones is the Tuben and Trombones and both of these are from East West Orchestra gold.

I hope that helps, thanks for the review! Go play the game this song was made for in case you haven't, it's just as epic if not more so then the song D:!

Take care!

Producing was good, but that's all.

You did a great job of sampling a classic tune, but it was badly sync'd with the preset synths for the first 1:20 or so, but the instrumental section matched really well with the beat you had put together. It's too bad because this had the potential to be a lot better. Also, I felt like the gradiose kick and snare that you picked were a bit too loud for the vocals you had sampled.

It's a very drunk sounding rat pack Xmas mix you have goin' on here, but hopefully you'll make improving this track your resolution for 2010.

krunkkillazkrew responds:

AIGHT DEN. I KNO DIZ IZ WELL PRODUCED BUT DIZ IZ MADE FO GETTIN KRUNK. THANKZ FO DAT REALLY HELPFUL REVIEW

Where was this in your other tracks?

I listened to a couple of your other tracks and you were making me think I wouldn't be able to give you a good review, but THANK YOU for proving me wrong. I hate giving out bad reviews. At least here I can say that you some really interesting beats and pads. I wasn't a huge fan of the bell synth, but that's just personal taste. All in all, this I thought was really well executed; it just needed a bit of EQ tweaking to bring the strings further into the backgrounds (consider using a stereo effect).

NJ!

Daniel-M responds:

lol awesome! This stuffs all midi crap, i'm hoping to get proper software for crimbo, i'm gonna start taking music more seriously then, this tracks hopefully a glimmer of things to come!

Cheers!

Not a big fan

This was something like a car trying to start, 10 octaves lower than it ought to. I was not all that impressed by anything that happened until about 1:25 of the track. and only for about 10 seconds. Then, another big bomb goes off and my subwoofer starts squealing.

Daniel-M responds:

lmfao that's incredible, i wasn't at all serious with this track, i can't believe that happened lol

thanks for the review :)

Ear candy anyone?

Nice buildup from the beginning until 1:40, but your beat really drops in unexpectedly at that point; i think it might have been better had you faded it in more gradually. I did like the way your synths never really took a back-seat to the kick punch beat though (not that I'm a big fan of kick punch, myself).

Really well mastered track, all around and with a great variety of synths that don't get too repetitive. However, at 3:05 you have this one sort-of drum roll and you ramp the volume up for the finale, but if i may humbly suggest trying fruity compressor, i think it might achieve the 'hard' sound you were looking for over that section without having to turn the volume up so much. Anyway, it's a fairly small complaint for 5 seconds out of 4 minutes, so nice work!

SFaPiL2 responds:

I know what you mean *sigh* =__=... I really ruined it from 1:42 onwards...

To be completely honest, I did this song in separate days... the first day was from 0:00-1:42 and the rest was rushed another day (simply because I couldn't stand seeing it rot in my archives). It's a flaw I have which I should fix.

About your suggestion, I'll give Fruity Compressor a try, but before that I should definitely find some tutorials on Youtube or something.

Thanks for your constant tips.

P.S. You're way too kind with the score, btw ^__^.

nice track!

It's a bit long on the intro, considering the whole track's only 2:41 long, but it was a nice intro... I also liked the drum roll you used to close out the chord progression. Strange bell synth though during that break around 2:00/ I was expecting something a bit chunkier. All in all, it was a good track, but maybe a bit quieter than I'm used to from you. If I didn't know you were capable of better, I'd have given you a 9 or a 10, but you know it as well as I do.

SFaPiL2 responds:

capable of better? Thanks ^__^.

Yeah, I should be extending on this one (and modifying the part from 2:00-end).

I have absolutely no time for songs lately, so I'll see what I can do in the near future.

Thanks once more for your time ^__^.
